After months of attempts, classic Donkey Kong player Allen Staal reclaimed his title of Australia’s best, or as his viewers call it, “Straya’s Best.”
On Nov. 1 at approximately 2:30 p.m. (AEDT) Staal finished the game and his seventh kill screen with 905,400 points. His game narrowly beat the previous top Australian score of 901,400 held by Shane Sawle, who beat Staal on Mar. 17 of this year.
After Sawle clinched the top spot for Australian Donkey Kong Staal’s goal became a 900,000 point game. Today’s game beat Staal’s previous high score was 871,900 which was achieved on June 14, 2016.
The top score for the iconic arcade game is currently held by American Wes Copeland at 1,218,000 points.
When asked, Staal didn’t state any new goals for the game, stating that he was going to take time to relax and celebrate his accomplishment.
“I finally got the monkey off my back,” Staal said.
