Fatal Fury: King of Fighters Original Release:  Nov. 25, 1991
Platforms: Arcade, SNES, Genesis/Mega Drive

First entry of the Fatal Fury franchise and the foundation for the King of Fighters franchise. This was SNK’s leap onto the Neo-Geo with a simplistic fighting game attached to a minimal story. One of three playable fighters challenge seven foes before the final encounter with Geese Howard.

Unless the player is shooting for a high score there’s not much to see as the AI is both simplistic and predictable. Sharp colors make the game pop on a cabinet CRT though the sounds definitely leave something to be desired.

Overall a piece of gaming history that’s worth a quarter drop.
