The past few weeks I have slowed down with Overwatch, mostly just to take a break and play other games in order to refresh and come back to the competitive scenefull steam for the Overwatch Chicago League Season 2. Still, I’ve been keeping tabs on the game, especially with the exciting new Uprising event. Today, we continue our PS4 vs PC hero comparisons with the game’s most formidable assassin- Widowmaker! If this is your first read of the series, check out my initial experience in transitioning from PS4 to PC here.

Overview
The only game where I enjoyed playing the sniper class was the original Team Fortress. Other than that, I would not describe myself as the sniper type. This applied to Overwatch, too. I didn’t play Widowmaker much on console; however, no one really did in competitive because of the difficulty aiming her deadly rifle with a controller. Then I got to PC and it felt fluid. I do occasionally bust her out in competitive on PC, depending on how bad I get flamed by teammates for doing so. She is very strong on PC in the right hands, but can be a major liability if played poorly.

Mobility
She needs to be evasive when dived upon, and her grappling hook enables her to do just that. This mobility perk is equally experienced on PS4 and PC.

Skills
The grappling hook as just mentioned is a great skill but has no predilection for either platform. Her venom mine is equally useable on PC and PS4. Button mapping on keyboard vs. controller seems intuitive in both cases. “Widow’s Kiss”, the name of her sniper rifle, however, is best experienced with an optimized keyboard and mouse setup on PC. I will expand upon this shortly.Ultimate “Infra-Sight” is a useful ultimate to see which direction the enemy team is approaching you or how they are set up on defense. This is strong on both PC and PS4.Fun Factor I did not enjoy playing Widowmaker until I started playing the game on PC. Fact is, it is a lot easier to aim with a mouse and low sensitivity on PC than it is with a controller on a console using only your thumbs. Widowmaker was designed for the most precise aiming experience, and this is where PC Widowmaker really shines.

Verdict
This one is a little bit of a no-brainer compared to other heroes. I would argue that one of the biggest differences between console and PC in Overwatch, aside from the faster pace on PC, is the role of precision aiming heroes, especially Widowmaker. PC Widowmaker wins this one with ease.
