Armor Game Studios today announced a 2019 Summer release on Steam for their up-and-coming title Jet Lancer. The game purports to be not just your standard shoot-’em-up; rather, the developers promise an intricate upgrade system with decisions that affect the balance of risk and reward. Perhaps most interesting is that there is reportedly a story themed on the human condition, which is unusual for a shoot-’em-up to have such a profound narrative.
The game stays true to its dogfighting jet blaster genre, however. Based on screen shots and available gameplay previews, there will be explosions galore with enemy robots being the target of your huge missiles. It just isn’t an aircraft shoot-’em-up without the bells and whistles, if you will. There is a single player campaign which is to be expected. The skill ceiling is reportedly high, and we like the sounds of that.
In addition to news of an approximate release date, Armor Games Studios also released a new trailer. The video, which can be seen below, showcases vivid art design, an adrenaline-inducing sound track, and KABOOMs that will get your blood pumping. It also gives a peak at the story by way of dialogue between two characters in the game. Unique boss battles, an important component for games of this type, are definitely present.
Game designer Vladimir Fedyushkin said: “Making Jet Lancer has felt like a journey into and uncharted territory of game design. Trying to create a modern arcade re-imagining of the classic 2D flight simulator genre required constantly inventing new approaches – and it’s been great fun taking on this challenge”
Justin Ramos, VP of Operations and Strategy at Armor Games Studios, added: “What drew us to Jet Lancer was its frenzied play, but once we spent more time with it we realized we had something far more special — a talented development team that understood how to make an experience that makes you feel like a badass ACE pilot, and rewards you for taking bold risks against overwhelming odds.”
Love this visual style and being a lover of shmups, this could be a good one!
Totally agree, keeping my eye on this one. Visual style was the seller for me as well.
