In our sector of healthcare the term “God complex” is used quite loosely and regularly, especially when applied to surgeons. Now, with the release of Abbey Games’s Godhood, you don’t have to be a surgeon to express that God side you crave. Released today as early access on Steam, Godhood is a top-down strategy game with a completely unique concept.
Set in a beautiful isometric world, Godhood allows players to create their own religion, attempt to control their followers who are gifted free will, and perform miracles. In addition, players can choose holy commandments, decide what is a virtue or a vice, build holy sites, or defeat rival Gods and their followers in ritualistic war.
The main form of currency in Godhood is followers. With the unfortunate gift of free will, believers are not a guarantee. With this in mind, rival gods will attempt to convert your following, and you must do what you can to prevent this. This is accomplished by sending your most coveted disciples, strengthened by rituals, to battle rival God factions in turn-based combat known as Sacraments.
“The time has come to finally set Godhood free in the wild,” said Rick Sorgdrager of Abbey Games. “And we couldn’t be happier to launch our new game into Early Access today. We’ve worked hard to get to this point: from the initial sketches and prototypes, to our Kickstarter and our closed Alpha. It’s been a long road, one we couldn’t have walked alone without the help from our dedicated community. This is only the start; expect much more exciting new content, new features, and new gods in the coming weeks and months!”
The Early Access launch of Godhood includes four religious dogmas to experiment with, 13 unique classes of disciples, a large variety of abilities and relics, dozens of missions, and over 20 buildings to construct and customize. Features planned for the future include god customization options, beliefs, missions, and holy temples.
