The often understated action role-playing game, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, secured its spot in a rampantly growing Switch library today. First released in 2012 by Capcom, the enhanced version (Dark Arisen) has since been ported to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It now comes to the switch as the first handheld experience for the game, complete with all previously released extra content/DLC.
Described by several members of the community as a “diamond in the rough”, the game is summarized as a tale of swords, sorcery and revenge. The player becomes the Arisen, the last in a line of warriors burdened with defending the realm of Gransys against a cataclysmic cycle of ruin and rebirth.
The game entices players to explore a flexible and rewarding combat system, complete with a wide range of skills and magic for taking on a variety of obstacles. In addition, nine different vocations offer unique playstyles for players to experiment and master.
Interested gamers should approach this one as a solo experience as there is no traditional multiplayer mode, which has been a main criticism of the game. On the flip side, loyalists of the title proclaim it to be one of the best single player action role-playing games ever created. At $29.99, we believe it is worth the price tag.
